Shore Excursion
in Trieste & Miramare Castle
Duration: 4 Hours
After crossing the Slovenian-Italian
border, you will start your exploration of
Trieste with a panoramic coach tour to admire some of the city's
most precious monuments. You will then climb the hill to reach the
famous Church of Saint Justus (San Giusto) built around its
medieval complex that dates backs to the 13th century. Your guide
will take you into the church for a close-up view of the splendid
Byzantine style architecture enriched with precious mosaics. You
will then continue to Miramare Castle, spectacularly built on
a Karstic rocky promontory in 1856 by order of Maximilian of
Hapsburg. Inside the castle you will be able to admire perfectly
preserved furnishings and decorations in an eclectic style. As you
pass from one hall to another you will be enchanted by the charm of
a place that harmoniously combines Mediterranean splendour with a
typically Northern atmosphere. As you journey towards the modern
part of the city you will travel past the places that made Trieste
an important shipping and trading centre in the 18th and 19th
centuries. When you reach Piazza Unità d'Italia, it will be
easy to capture that Mitteleuropean atmosphere which still lingers
throughout the city from Hapsburg times.

Sei Busi allows outstanding views from its summit, up to the first
slopes of the Carso plateau. Here on monumental terraces are buried
the remains of 100,187 fallen: 39,857 known and 60,330 unknown. Back
to the ship at the end of the visit.
Please note: This excursion features long walks; comfortable walking

to Lipica (Slovenia)
Duration: 5 Hours
Start the Tour with a
30 minutes bus ride to Lipica.
The Lipica Stud Farm is the cradle of all Lipizzaner horses in the
world. Nowadays it is one of the most beautiful cultural and
historical monuments of the Republic of Slovenia, its rich history
reaching back to the year of 1580. It has been boasting of the
tradition of breeding and selecting pure-breed horses. In the 1960’s
the Lipica Stud Farm established the Classic Riding School which
still participates in worldwide equestrian events. The history of
Lipica is closely intertwined with the Habsburgs who ruled as
many as 650 years over an extensive part of baroque Europe. Horses,
the Spanish horse wasconsidered an ideal breed, were
at the time a crucial strategic advantage and were thus of
outstanding importance to the Habsburgs. The soil and climate of the
Karst are very similar to that of Spain which is why the
Archduke Charles chose to build the royal stud farm in 1578 in
the Karst in the abandoned summer residence of the Bishop of Trieste
in this area. On 19 May 1580 hesigned an agreement to
restore the estate. At the end of the visit we will drive back to
Koper.
