Duration: Approximately 7 hours
The village of Valldemossa can be found
in the terraced valleys of Serra de Tramuntana mountains. The day
starts with a tour though the old cobbled streets of Valldemossa
with houses that date back to the early 17th Century, followed by a
visit to the 13th Century Parish Church of Sant Bartomeu and the
Oratory of Saint Catalina Tomàs the birthplace of Catalina Tomàs in
1531.
The tour then makes it way to the 15th century Carthusian Monastery
of Valldemossa and the Palace of Rei Sanç, it was here that the
Polish composer Frederick Chopin and the French writer George Sands
lived in 1838 -1839. George Sands wrote her novel ‘A Winter in
Majorca’ and there are many reminders of Chopin stay such as the
piano where he composed some of his music. The tour finishes with a
walk through the beautiful Monastery gardens and the Contemporary
Art Museum with its collection of Modernist art by Miro, Picasso,
Francis Bacon and Juli Ramis.
